Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution

If you follow a few beauty blogs, you've probably seen a couple posts about the latest addition to Charlotte Tilbury's swoon-worthy makeup line already. These lipsticks have been talk of the town for the past few weeks. In case they haven't already made it onto your Pre-Christmas wish list, or into your handbag, here are my thoughts on the new 'Matte Revolution' line.
As usual with Charlotte's line, you can't fault the stunning rose gold 1920's inspired packaging. The shape of the bullet is squared, which I adore and they have a delicious sweet vanilla scent to them...

Left Row, Front to Back: Walk of Shame, Red Carpet Red, Birkin Brown, Lost Cherry, Sexy Sienna
Right Row, Front to Back: Glaston-Berry, Love Liberty,  Bond Girl, Very Victoria
What I really like about them though, is the finish. I'm not normally a huge matte fan. I find a lot of them quite drying, heavy and uncomfortable to wear. Out of all the velvet formulas I've tried, this is my favourite. It's soft, creamy, light and not too matte (it still has that hint of moisture to it that makes it both easy to apply, flattering and comfortable to wear all day.) It's not drying and the pigmentation is lovely. Because of this, the staying power isn't ahh-mazing, but I'm ok with topping up my lipstick a couple of times throughout the day, so that didn't bother me at all. I think these lippies are the perfect balance between comfortable and convenient.

There are 10 shades, that tend to err on the side of dark. My two favourites are Amazing Graze and Love Liberty (as shown L-R below)
The one downside is the price tag. At £23 they are expensive (as is all of Charlotte's line) but these are up there with the best of the high-end offerings.

I couldn't bring myself to swatch all of the lovely shades I was given, as I knew I couldn't possibly get through them all, so I decided to give some away to you lovely people. If you'd like to win 1 of 4 shades in Glaston-Berry, Red Carpet Red, Birkin Brown or Walk of Shame, all you have to do is head over to Twitter, and let me know which colour you'd like to win using the hashtag #FDFLipstick - The shades are listed above for reference. Open internationally. Closes Tuesday October 7th at Midnight GMT. Winners will be announced on Twitter

Brow This Way: Gimme Brow Dupe?

Another new Rimmel review today! A few weeks ago I picked up one of their new 'Brow This Way' coloured brow gels in Medium Brown. After Benefit's 'Gimme Brow' caused quite a bit of fanfare when it launched this year, I thought it would be interesting to compare the two.
The Rimmel version comes in 3 different shades (plus a clear one, which I'm ignoring for this post as it's not really comparable to the others). As you can see from the pictures, they look a little bit like a mini mascara...

You brush these onto your brows for an instant boost in thickness and volume. I have to admit, when I first heard about this kind of product (NARS were on it years ago) I thought I'd never see the day where I wanted to try one, but as I've gotten more confident with my brows, it's something that I've grown to love.
Compared to the benefit version, the brushes are GIANT. This is one of the main downsides for me, as they aren't dinky enough to really be subtle with your brush strokes. When using these, I often get a bit of gel where I don't want it, due to the wand being so big and carrying more product than you need. The formula is also quite different to the benefit version. It's quite a bit more pigmented, so they aren't as subtle. Benefit also offer a cooler, more ashy tone too (see below comparison), which is what a lot of people are looking for when it comes to brows. The Rimmel ones are slightly warmer.
Yes, these are similar products, but we definitely don't have the dupe on our hands that I was hoping for. The giant difference in price point still makes the Rimmel versions appealing (£3.99 compared to £17.50) but they aren't quite as good.

Have any of you tried these yet? What do you think?

Zoella Beauty: Launch, First Impressions & OOTN

Last night I was lucky enough to attend the launch of Zoella Beauty, the much anticipated bath and body line from my fellow beauty vlogger and general internet superstar Zoe Sugg.

I thought I'd post a little first look and partial review on here for you all, as I'm sure a lot of you will be dying to try these products out when they hit Superdrug stores on Monday (although apparently Superdrug have been a little naughty and stocked a few shelves with these goodies already... So if you're really keen to get your hands on them before then, keep your eyes peeled!)

As expected, the line is undeniably 'Zoe'. The design of the packaging is simply gorgeous and I think it looks quite high end. The products look and feel far more expensive than they are, which is always a good thing in my book!
There are 7 products: The 'Creamy, Madly Dreamy' body lotion, 'Soak Opera' bath & shower cream, 'Blissful Mistful' fragranced body mist, 'Fizz Bar' fragranced bath fizzers, 'Let's Glow' scented candle and two cute-as-a-button makeup bags. Everything is priced at £5 except the makeup bags and body mist, which are £8.

I haven't had the chance to give them a proper road test yet (obviously, the launch was last night!) But on first impression I think the products are really impressive. I especially love the concept of the bath fizzers, which are shaped and packaged like a bar of chocolate so you can break off a few chunks and save the rest till next time! I actually gave these a whirl this morning (I know, a bath in the morning - how indulgent! But I couldn't wait to try them!)

They fragrance of the line is quite sweet, but lovely in my opinion. Fragrance is always quite personal so you'll have to give them a sniff in store if you're not sure and see what you think, but I'm a fan!

I also love the little candle, housed in a mini metal tin. These were burning all over the launch party last night and are great for the bathroom especially as they are compact and not smash-able glass! There is a bit of confusion about the actual packaging of this, as the ones I saw last night were silver, but the one listed on the Superdrug website is different (see above).

The launch itself was a girly girl's dream of pink balloons, macaroons, sweeties, champagne and party dresses. I didn't take too many photos as I was so busy chatting to everyone and generally enjoying the evening, but here's a little OOTN on my part. I wore a rose patterned shirt from The Kooples layered over a suede mini skirt from F21, a Zara floaty waistcoat, Zara necklace, my Chanel bag and super high boots from House of Harlow.

On a final note, I have to pass on my personal congratulations to Zoe herself. It's pretty rare that someone so successful remains totally down to earth and utterly gorgeous inside and out. She really is a genuinely lovely girl and that definitely showed last night when the whole blogging community turned up to celebrate with her. Well done Zoe, you smashed it!

The Zoella Beauty range is available online at feelunique.com and in Superdrug stores on Monday.

Clarins Feed 10

I wanted to do a little blog post to let you all know about a gift with purchase that Clarins are running at the moment. It's the usual deal, you have to buy two items, one to be skincare, and you will receive a little makeup bag full of goodies. The difference this time is that for every GWP given, Clarins are working with FEED Projects to donate 10 school meals to children in developing countries through the UN World Food Programme
They've aptly dubbed it the 'Gift With Purpose'...

The gift itself contains very generous sample sizes of the Moisture Rich Body Lotion, Relax Bath & Shower Concentrate, Gentle Refiner, Hydra Quench Cream Mask and the Hand & Nail Treatment. The accompanying hessian makeup mag is lovely too.
I have to admit, these kinds of offers sometimes make me think, why not just donate all the money you spend on these products to charity and it would go a lot further... BUT you can say that about so many things. I think this is a step in the right direction from much a huge global beauty brand. If you need a top up of anything Clarins, or fancy trying something new (I'm currently OBSESSED with the Instant Light Lip Perfectors) then now is the time to buy!

The offer is available now, till the 4th October at Clarins counters nationwide.

Check Mate

Today's OOTD is something a little different for me. I love trying new pieces and styles when the seasons change, and Autumn is probably one of my favourite wardrobe transitions. I love wrapping up warm for the first time, and this season I'm loving all of the mixed textures, checked prints and that hint of 60's style that seems to be everywhere.
New look invited me to style an outfit from their new Autumn collection, and this is what I went for...
My favourite piece from the outfit is the burgundy backpack. I finally caved to the backpack trend over the summer and I've also been looking for a new laptop bag for ages. This structured number kills two birds with one stone as it fits my 13 inch macbook in perfectly, while also being big enough and pretty enough to act as a handbag too. I love the colour, finish and gold corner details. I posted the above picture on Instagram yesterday and a lot of people were asking about the backpack, so I'm guessing I'm not alone in my love for it!

I'm also slightly in love with the black buckled boots. They are part of New Look's 'premium' shoe line, and while they are more expensive than a lot of their other boots, they are gorgeous, soft leather and have a sturdy block heel so are really easy and comfortable to walk in. The brown sole makes them quite unique too. I was also tempted by the burgundy version, but went for the black to avoid looking too matchy-matchy with the backpack!
For the rest of the outfit, I layered monochrome checked prints with different textures. I chose this oversized, textured duster coat as it's really soft and comfortable. Underneath I'm wearing a knitted, checked top and a brushed fleece mini skirt. I really like layering different prints and textures, while leaving the look totally monochrome.
Sadly, money can't buy you a naughty Squidge, but I'll let you take a look at her gorgeous face for free! ;)

With hundreds of new styles landing in store and online each week, you can always count on New Look to bring you the latest trends straight from the catwalk and into your wardrobe. For more tips and trends follow @newlookfashion and shop the new season at newlook.com.

Provocalips

Rimmel are set to launch a new sister product to their Apocalips lip laquers, cleverly named 'Provocalips' (when will the puns stops?! love it!). These are long lasting, dual ended glosses with colour on one end and a glossy top coat on the other.
The packaging is good but I really don't like the white tube end with the multicoloured lips, which I think cheapens the look quite a bit. The product itself is great though...

The coloured end applies fairly normally, but dries down to be a little sticky (you can tell it's going to last!) then the gloss on top is a high shine, smooth formula that makes it really nice and comfortable to wear.
L-R: Kiss Me You Fool, I'll Call you,  Make You Move, Skinny Dipping, Dare to Pink
When these lovelies landed on my desk a few weeks ago, I instantly thought of one of my favourite lip products from Chanel (The Chanel Rouge Double Intensite in Light Rise). It's housed in identical packaging and the product has identical aims too.
I pulled this out to compare and was pleasantly surprised to find that they are actually very, very similar in formulation. The Chanel version is slightly more sticky on the first coat (translation: lasts a bit longer) and the gloss top coat is slightly more glossy, but the look and premise of the product is very similar. They even have a similar colour to my favourite Chanel shade. The Chanel has a slight shimmer to it, but it's a pretty good drugstore dupe if you ask me!
Overall, I was really impressed by these. There are 8 different shades, and they will be available from the 1st October, at a very reasonable £6.99 each.

What do you think guys, do you like the look of Provocalips?

Pommes Frites Candle Co.

A few months ago, I found one of these candles in a little shop in Brooklyn, New York and it's quickly become one of my all time favourites. I'd never heard of the Pommes Frites Candle Co at the time (I was just drawn in by the delicious scent!) but it turns out these little brown jars are really something quite special.
The scent I went for at the time was Amber & Moss, and after falling totally in love with it when I got home, I tracked down a place to buy them in the UK...

Although they are quite a bit more expensive here (£18 compared to $16!), I think they are really worth it, as in comparison to some of the other high-end candles out there (which are still double the price) they kick off a lot more scent,  and the fragrances are totally unique and utterly divine.
I think the Amber and Moss is still my favourite, but I have since ordered three more in the form of Sweet Grapefruit (I'm not normally that much of a grapefruit fan but this is gorgeous, and probably my second favourite!) Teakwood & Tobacco (more of a sexy masculine, wintery scent but gorgeous for a home fragrance) and Fig & Jasmine (really nice but surprisingly my least favourite (I normally obsess over fig fragrances!)
I looked into the history of the company a bit more and was happy to find out it's actually a family business run by a husband and wife team from LA. I managed to track down a stockist in the UK here who sells all of the scents I have, but the company also has an Etsy store that apparently ships worldwide so I may have to make my next order from there and try out some different scents (Hello, Spiced Pumpkin!)

Have any of you heard of or tried these candles before? I'm obsessed!

THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. THE WINNER WAS @LauraMetcalf
I actually bought an extra Amber & Moss candle for one of you lovely people too, so if you'd like to win it, all you have to do is head over to twitter, tweet me the name of your current favourite candle with a link to this blog post and the #FDFCandle. The giveaway is open internationally until the 23rd September GMT. You can enter as many times as you like and the winner will be announced on twitter, and on this blog post! Good Luck!

The Easy Liquid Liner

If you struggle with liquid eyeliner, or if it just takes you ages to get the perfect flick and you don't have time to spend 10 minutes doing it in the morning, I've finally discovered the solution!
NYX have a nifty little eyeliner called 'The Curve', which has quickly become a makeup bag staple of mine. It's rounded, ergonomic design allows you to draw on the perfect flick in just a few seconds...

The felt-tip nib is quite thick too, so it's a foolproof shortcut to a daily cat-eye. The formula is really black and glossy, so there's no fiddling around with a watery finish. I've become totally addicted to this, and have been using it most days. It's honestly the quickest and easiest liquid eyeliner to apply I've ever tried.
The one problem I've had with it is longevity. I've got quite watery eyes (and I also wear contacts so I have to fiddle with my eyes a little bit throughout the day!) so this needs a bit of a top up after 4-5 hours. Having said that, I really don't mind carrying this around in my bag for top-ups as it's so quick and easy! I can honestly do a quick cat eye in two minutes, which beats my previous record many times over!
The 2 minute flick... (Please ignore the scraped back hair, I was in a hurry! hehe) You can pick up 'The Curve' liner from Very.co.uk for £13.

What's your favourite liquid liner? Have any of you tried 'The Curve'?

Rebirth of The Beauty Box

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'm a little bored of the 'beauty box'. They've been doing the rounds for the past few years, from Glossybox to Birchbox, Feelunique & Carmine, there have been quite a few. Some have lasted, some have fallen by the wayside. I have to say I'm still a big fan of Birchbox, but it's fair to say that the 'craze' does seem to be fading. Enter a breath of beauty-box fresh air...
'My Little Box' is a Parisian concoction. A mixture of beauty, fashion, lifestyle, even stationary. I've gotten the past couple of boxes and have been seriously impressed by them...

The accompanying magazine looks amazing too, although it's in French and my GCSE-level language skills aren't up to scratch when it comes to reading it from cover-to-cover, they have some really fun DIY ideas. It officially launches in the UK this month (in English, horaay!) so if you're bored of the beauty boxes out there at the moment then definitely check this out! My personal favourite things from the past few months include cute holiday-themed stickers, a miniature of my favourite Essie shade 'Cute as a Button', A mini L'Occitane Imortelle face cream and even a cute pineapple print sarong!
It's £14.95 a month including delivery. I think it would make a lovely gift (a subscription especially so!) You can find out more, subscribe, or order an individual box here.
