Rimmel Apocalips: Review & Swatches

Sorry I've been silent on the blogging front for the past few weeks guys, I've had a lovely relaxing Christmas break and I hope you all have too!

I've had these lipglosses for quite a few weeks now, but I wanted to make sure I gave them a thorough road test before I reviewed them for you, as there have been a few mixed reviews in the blogosphere.

They are Rimmel's new Apocalips lip laquers. There are 8 colours in the range, from red to nude.
Left-Right: Apocaliptic, Big Bang, Nova, Stellar, Galaxy, Celestial, Luna, Nude Eclipse
On first impression, I thought the colour range was slightly off, but after wearing each of the shades, I think their choice of colours is pretty great for a drugstore brand. There's a nice variety of brights and nudes, and not any neons or garish shades. (While the peachy pastel orange looks awful in the tube, it's actually quite pretty on the lips!)
The Red (Big Bang) is the star of the collection in my opinion, and although I'm not really in to my nude lipsticks at the moment, the nude is a very good one (let's face it, there are some awful nudes out there!)

The consistency of these products is what impressed me the most. They are really creamy and opaque. The aplicator has a little well in the centre that collects product so you can apply it with only one or two dips.

The product has a satiny finish that actually dries quite matte, so it can get a little dry after a few hours, but I find that a quick top up solves this perfectly, and they don't dry my lips out at all. The staying power is fantastic. The bright colours especially, stay on my lips for hours and hours, even after eating!

Galaxy
Stellar

Big Bang
Overall, I think these products are absolutely fantastic. Lovely packaging, colours, formula and price! An absolute gem for the high street, well done Rimmel!

You can pick these up for £5.99 from 23rd January

If you'd like to see Big Bang in action, I used it in my latest makeup tutorial on YouTube - CLICK HERE to see it!

Fiddlesticks!

I’m absolutely loving this deep magenta glitter polish from Butter London’s Christmas collection. I love the name too… It’s called Fiddlesticks. How cute is that?!
As I’ve found with most of the Butter London polishes I own, it’s got quite a unique matte, textured glitter finish which I think is really pretty.
You get the girliness of the pink glitter, but the finish isn’t super shiny and perfect, so it adds a little edge.
It’s not the best when it comes to chipping, it chipped on me after just over a day (with a top coat) Having said that, I have been wrapping a lot of Christmas presents, and all the other Butter shades I’ve tried in the past have all had great staying power - so I blame the sellotape!

I picked this polish up while I was in the states last month, where you can find it in Ulta for $14. If you’re in the UK, you can buy Butter Polishes from Harvey Nichols in the UK for £12.

Join Me at The L'Oreal Live Stream Event - TONIGHT!

You guys might have seen or heard about the L'Oreal live stream event that is happening tonight on YouTube? If not, it's a fun live event hosted by Cherry Healey where you can learn all about choosing the right hair colour for you, and why colouring your hair at home shouldn't be scary!

I'll be live on set with Cherry, L'Oreal makeup artist Nancy Sumner and hair expert Chris Appleton, talking about how to choose the perfect hair colour for you, and the makeup and clothes to match. We'll also be giving away lots of L'Oreal goody bags on Twitter so make sure you use the hastag #colouralong if you tweet, to be in with a chance of winning some hair goodies!

I've been backstage with the team all day. Here are a few pics from behind the scenes to give you a sneak peak of what's in store this evening!

Spring Sneak Peak: Dior Cherie Bow Collection

Although the Holiday beauty collections are still glittering away on the counters, it's surprisingly soon until the Spring goodies arrive in stores, and this upcoming collection from Dior has to be one of the prettiest I've seen in a while. MAC's Holiday collection was bow-themed, and it seems that Dior are hot on their coattails with their Cherie Bow collection.
The images from the collection are simply stunning, and the products themselves are lovely, all themed around rosy pinks and nudes. The stand out piece from the collection has got to be the Cherie Bow Palette. I was luck enough to get one of the shades to photograph this week and it's even more gorgeous in real life.
As usual with the Dior palettes, it is going to break the bank! At £59 for three eyeshadows, an eyeliner and a lipgloss it's super expensive, but you have to admit it's one of the prettiest beauty offerings out there...

Above: Shade 002 (more pinks) , Below: Shade 001 (more greys)
I have a feeling that this palette may well steal the show, but the collection itself is actually pretty huge! There are two shades of 5 Colour Palettes (Rose Ballerine & Rose Charmeuse) - They also have a three colour eyeshadow palette which I don't have a picture of, entitled 'Smokey Rose'
Three shades of Le Vernis nail colour (Tutu, Rosy Bow & Gris Trianon)

Four variants of their new double ended eyeshadow pencil 'Twin Set's (Ballerina Pink, Beige Ribbon, Fishnet Black & Grey Sigh)

They've also expanded their collection of 'Glow' products (following on from the Rosy Glow blush and Lip Glow Balm last summer) to include the Lip Glow lipgloss and Nail Glow polish, which are designed to enhance your natural lips and nails.
There are two new shades of blush: Tender Coral & Pink Happiness

And last but not least, their new DiorSkin Nude BB Creme (available in three shades)
I'm really impressed by the visual appeal of this collection, but I think the prices may put a lot of people off. Eitherway I think it is one to look out for when it hits counters in January!

The collection will be released on 4th January into Selfridges and 18th January nation wide.

What do you think of this collection, does anything catch your eye?

Fragrance Friday: Noir by The White Company

Dark Amber and Ginger Lily has long been my favourite scent from Jo Malone. The only problem is, for some reason unbeknown to me... Jo Malone decided that is wasn't quiiiite good enough to make a whole range of products with this beautiful scent. It only comes in the Cologne.

This is why I was utterly over the moon when The White Company decided to copy Jo Malone brought out an uncannily similar scent called Noir. It was the same intoxicating warmth of Amber, mixed with sweet mandarin to lighten it up, a hint of oriental charm with orchid, and a little muskiness added by sandalwood.

It's simply divine. What's more, you can get hand wash, hand cream, scented candles, room spray, fragrance diffusers, body cream and bath oil, along with the standard eau de toilette fragrance... So you and your whole house can smell this lovely! Perfect.

Top of my wish list this Christmas is the gorgeous three wick candle. It's ridiculously expensive at £70 but this is a wish list after all...

Has anyone else smelt this scent yet? What do you think?

The Noir collection is available now, priced from £18-£70

Review: Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Tinted Balm

When this little beauty arrived on my doorstep this morning, I was left absolutely gobsmacked by the sheer beauty and quality of the packaging. Despite their being such a huge amount of hype surrounding the super-high coverage 'Sensual Skin Enhancer' I've never gotten around to trying it myself, but to be honest, this new tinted moisturiser type product seems a little more up my street anyway.

So it goes without saying that the packaging is stunning. Unique, classy, compact and very tactile. The see-through panel on the front is a type of matte silicone material that allows you to squeeze the product out, while the rest of the packaging is a hard plastic, with Kevyn Aucoin's signature metallic black and red finish.

The packaging alone made me desperate to love this product, just so that it could make it a permanent addition to my makeup bag.
The consistency of the product is much more akin to a BB cream than a tinted moisturiser... It's thicker, and takes a little bit more effort to blend it in. The most obvious comparison to make here would be with the Chantecaille Just Skin tinted moisturiser... Both have a similar aim and a premium price point (though I must note that this comes in considerably more affordable than the Chantecaille at £36 compared to £57)

So what's the verdict? The application is pretty much the same as the Chantecaille, very 'BB'-like in texture.
The finish is very natural and super lightweight. As the name would suggest, it enhances your skin rather than covering it, leaving you with naturally glowing, fresh-looking skin. Having said that it is slightly build-able, so you can get a nice light-medium coverage from it if you layer it.

The one issue I did have with this on my skin, was that I found it to be a tiny bit drying. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it did seem to have better staying power than Chantecaille's Just Skin throughout the day, and it 'settles' in to the skin nicely after an hour or so (perhaps thanks to the Japanese bloodgrass, which is meant to help maintain moisture in the skin). I think this would be a great choice for oily skin types as it's less likely to disappear during the day than a lot of other similar products.

It also has some added skincare properties including botanical rice extract that works to preserve cell vitality, delay ageing and soothe and calm the skin. It's paraben, D5 and oil free, protects against UVA and UVB with a 'theoretic' SPF of 20 (I'm not exactly sure what that entails, but some reviews have stated that it doesn't contain SPF at all, when apparently it does - always good news!)

One major downfall for the product is the shade range. There are a mere 4 shades in the range, the shade I tried is the second lightest, so it doesn't seem to cater for all skin tones at the moment - hopefully that is something that will change in the future if the product sells well.

Overall, I think the packaging is slightly more impressive than the product, but the product is still nice, and I will certainly use it up. I think it may be better suited to oily skins so I would be interested to hear if anyone else out there has tried this yet, and what you thought?

The Sensual Tinted Balm is available now at SpaceNK stores, priced at £36 for 30ml. You can also buy the Chantecaille Just Skin from Space NK, priced at £57 for 50ml

Swatched: MAC Lavish Rose Set

I've had this little set for a few weeks now, and it may well be sold out just about everywhere... but I thought it was a crime against makeup not to show it to you all on the blog as it's just THAT pretty.
It's the 'Lavish Rose' lipgloss quartet from MAC's 'Guilty Passions' Holiday collection. There are four different miniature lipglosses housed in what is possibly the cutest packaging in the world!
What's more exciting is that these glosses are some of my favourite formulations out there.
There's two Cremesheen Glasses, a Dazzleglass Creme and a Dazzleglass. Aren't they beautiful?
L-R: Color Saturation, Boys Go Crazy, Going Casual, Demure
Color Saturation (Cremesheen Glass)
Boys Go Crazy (Dazzleglass)
Going Casual (Creemsheen)
Demure (Dazzleglass Creme)
This has been the first MAC collection that's excited me in such a long time, I just think it's adorable.

Have you picked up anything from this collection?
